Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council, Thiruvanathapuam issued the sanction order on 31.10.2002 to start the School of Nursing, attached to St. Sebastian’s Visitation Hospital, Arthunkal, Cherthala Alappuzha District for the Academic year 2003- 2004. The three year General Nursing and Midwifery course commenced on 06.01.2003 with the annual intake of 20 students. St. Sebastian’ s Visitation School of Nursing is administered by sisters of Visitation Congregation of Alappuzha, is a religious minority Institution under Article 30 (1) of the Constitution of India.
The aim of the School of Nursing is to impart professional Nursing education to aspiring young women according to the Christian spirit of love and compassion for the comprehensive health care of all people, irrespective of age, sex, caste, creed or race. Eligibility for admission to GNM course: candidates should have passed +2/ equivalent examination with English as one subject, minimum of 40% marks from any recognized board. Candidates belong to SC/ST category with pass mark are eligible for application. Science group with physics, Chemistry, Biology is preferable. In the absence of candidates with science group, candidates with other groups will also be considered. Selected candidates are eligible for educational concessions/scholarships/grants/admissible for SC/ ST/ OEC candidates. Students are liable to undergo GNM course and its syllabus as stipulated by Indian Nursing Council.
Every year students are taken for educational visits and tours along with their faculty based on their educational requirements. To promote extra- curricular activities, students take part in the sports and cultural competitions held in connection with Nurses day celebrations as well as SNA (Student Nurses Association).
